Vacuums

TYPES OF POOL VACUUMS (pool cleaners)

1. AUTOMATIC / ROBOTIC

Uses pool pump's suction or pressure to move and clean

Attaches to inside of pool

Make sure your pump is strong enough for this kind of pump.

If pool has wrinkles or is off level, it will have trouble moving around the entire pool.

2. SUCTION SIDE VACUUMS

Relies on pool pump's suction to vacuum up dirt/debris

Utilizes pump's filter to catch dirt & debris

Attaches to inside of pool on Inlet (where water is sucked into the pump)

Among these types are also ones that connect to a garden hose. Vacuum uses the water pressure from the garden hose to push dirt into the pool filter.

3. PRESSURE SIDE VACUUMS

Uses pump pressure via the water return to push water into a bag or filter of it's own

Attaches to inside of pool on water return jet (where water goes from pump back into pool)

If you are planning on vacuuming up fine sand/dirt, plan on going slow with these vacuums.

4. MANUAL / RECHARGABLE

Battery operated and does not attach to pool or pump

Has independent suction and power

Houses an independent filter of it's own

Make sure you know what kind of Vacuums are out there before you buy one! Several are sold as POOL VACUUMS when in reality, they are just heads that attach to a hose.

THINGS TO CHECK BEFORE BUYING

Does it include the pool hose?

Do you need an adapter to fit pool/hose?

Do you need a garden hose?

Does it come with a filter? Extras?

Is it compatible with your pump?

Will it work in aboveground pool?

Does it come with/Need a Pole?

GET THE MOST OUT OF VACUUMMING

Vacuums are great, but you still need a silt or debris net.

Use net to get large debris off top; go around pool to get big leaves/sticks off bottom

Vacuum first circle on edges/at seam, then vacuum remaining

When vacuuming with suction sided vacuum or manual vacuum, do not start or turn on until it is completely submersed in water. KEEP HEAD or HOSE BELOW WATER TO AVOID GETTING AIR IN PUMP

TIP

As long as you have a hose that reaches to the other side of the pool, you can use the hose as a vacuum. Attach to the inside of the water inlet and it will use the pump's suction (adapters are fairly inexpensive, if you need one).

Hose Sizes & Adapters

Not all pool hoses are the same size.  Some vacuums will require an adapter in order to fit your pool hoses.  The same will apply to the pool inlets; not all are the same size.
